The Nicola Valley Health Care Auxiliary offers volunteer opportunities for youth ages 14 and up, as a great way to get a first taste of volunteering, give back to the community, and also receive high school credit towards graduation. Find out more about volunteering with us here.
The Thrift Shop is managed and staffed by students during the summer months. Up to 6 students are employed full-time during the summer; while we regularly apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, we also hire if we don't receive the funding, as a way to give back to the community and inspire youth to pursue a career in health care.
We also provide student employment year-round, the Thrift Shop is staffed by students on Saturdays.
We provide three $2,000 bursaries each year to students graduating from Merritt Secondary School. Preference is given to students who are entering the medical field or have volunteered with our organization. From 2018 to 2024, we gave out $68,000 in bursaries.
For more information on applying for a bursary, please contact Merritt Secondary School.
"Receiving the bursary has helped me further my studies without financial worries. I'm headed towards the field of counselling, currently finishing up my Bachelor's Degree and then continuing to get my Master's Degree. Counselling is a big need in our community and after taking a Psychology class at NVIT, I knew it was going in that direction."
~ Julia Smith, student bursary recipient
